Meter Data Management System (MDMS)

MDMS provides a single repository for processing and managing meter and meter operations data as well as meter read data. In an AMI enabled utility business, the volume, frequency, resolution, and type of data (e.g., interval demand data, voltage, outage events, meter tempering indications, etc.) received from the utility meters are vastly different from manual meter reads and mobile (drive-by) meter reading systems. MDMS is key to AMI enterprise benefits while reducing the ongoing operation and support costs of IT. MDMS provides a single repository for this data with a variety of analysis capabilities to facilitate the integration with other utility information systems such as Customer Information, Outage Management System (OMS), Mobile Workforce Management (MWM), GIS information, Transformer Load Management, etc. MDMS is beneficial for a utility to assess the capabilities it requires of an MDMS and determine how the AMI data will touch the utilities existing systems. To improve customer service and response time for billing inquiries, MDMS needs to provide the customer service representative a view into the meter read history of the customer in an efficient and user-friendly manner and upon user demand initiate, process, route, and return the current consumption or demand data of the customer.

Our client is one of the big Asian Utility company who has already taken an initiative for involving MDMS system in their Smart Billing Pilot Project under AMI Infrastructure. Here Smart Grid’s expertise and services are helping them to integrate the AMI data through a meter data management system (MDMS) and manage the activity that includes day-to-day operations of MDMS, system maintenance, and data management. In day-to-day operations, Smart Grid takes care of Real-time data processing through MDMS, Data ready for use immediately by MDMs EnergyIP and EE system Operators. Exceptions are identified immediately and Data receiving by MDMs should be full versioned data from data source.
